It's thanks to the local history association "Medaria" that an interesting exhibition tells about life and work in this part of East Tyrol. In the Local Museum Matrei in Osttirol you can admire not only excavation finds but also numerous objects of everyday life of the last centuries.
Back then life was hard and people were very religious. The devotional objects, flags and masks in the museum tell about the deep faith of the people. Two particularities of the museum "Medaria" are the last brown bear of Tyrol, which was shot in 1971 in Tyrol, and the large collection of minerals with a 350 kg heavy rock crystal. We definitely recommend you to see it! The museum is accessible via the entrance of the town hall of Matrei in Osttirol.
