From Lienz, the Zettersfeld hiking and skiing area is easily accessible. Starting at the mountain station of the cable car, a hike proceeds to the impressive Neualpl Lakeland, located at the foot of the 2,904 m high Mt Schleinitz amidst the Schober Group (about 2 hours). This mountain group is part of the High Tauern with the famous national park.
The lake district at about 2,450 m a.s.l. consists of two big and several smaller lakes. The two bigger ones are Lake Nussdorf with the little island and Lake Thurn with its rocky bank. Besides these natural gems in the heart of the East Tyrolean alpine world, there are two more lakes in the close surroundings, but not belonging to the Neualpl Lake District: Lake Alkuser (2,432 m a.s.l) and Lake Trelebitsch at 2,336 m.
