Between the Val di Vizze valley near Vipiteno and the Lago Selvaggio lake, the Picco della Croce (Wilde Kreuzspitze in German) is located, with 3,135 m the highest summit of the Fundres Mountains in the Zillertal Alps. Three metres lower, the southeast summit of the mountain is located, where also the summit cross can be found.
The Picco della Croce was climbed for the first time in 1861. Today the mountain is accessible either via the Sterzinger Hütte mountain hut (2,344 m a.s.l.) or via the famous alpine village of the Fane and the Rif. Bressanone hut (2,307 m a.s.l.) as well as from south via the Passo di Sèngas. At the top you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view on the mountains of the Zillertal Alps and the Lago Selvaggio lake.
