The Gamswiesenspitzen are a whole massif which includes the Große and Kleine Gamswiesenspitze (2,486 m a.s.l. and 2,454 m) as well as the Bloßkofel mountain (2,400 m). It is located south of the municipal area of Amlach, between the Laserzkessel and Kerschbaumertörl.
In 1803, the Große Gamswiesenspitze was climbed for the first time, back then a hunting trail proceeded up to the summit. Today it is a popular panoramic mountain, it can be reached from the Karlsbader Hütte mountain hut in about 3 hours.
In 2006, the famous via ferrata “Madonnen-Klettersteig” was opened which provides access to the two Gamswiesenspitzen. One of its highlights is a 16 m long chain bridge. The via ferrata is named after the cliff Madonna with the reflecting headdress which flashes in the sunlight.
