With 2,962 m the Weisse Spitze in East Tyrol is the highest mountain of the Villgraten Mountains, also called Defereggen Alps. Right next to it, but accessible along a completely different route, the Rote Spitze is located, which is only 6 metres lower.
Starting at the Bruggeralm mountain hut, in the back Villgratental valley, the Rote Spitze is accessible within approximately 4.5 hours. On site, the Rote and Weisse Spitze are partly named conversely, in the Defereggental valley the Rote Spitze is deemed to be the east and higher mountain but this does not correspond to the official maps. On the top you can enjoy a beautiful view on the further gigantic mountains of the High Tauern, like Grossglockner and Grossvenediger.
