The Tre Cime Alpine Dairy in Dobbiaco offers interesting insights into cheesemaking
Image gallery: Tre Cime Alpine Dairy
In the Tre Cime Alpine Dairy, the milk from the Upper Pusteria valley is processed into South Tyrolean mountain cheese and other delicacies. The history dates back to 1882, when the Dobbiaco Dairy Cooperative was founded, to produce milk, cream, butter and cheese. How the cheese is made, how it matures and how the famous holes get into the cheese - all this can be experienced in the show dairy.
A little museum at the beginning of the tour shows a review into bygone times but also into the today's life of the farmers of the valley. Films show the cheese production which you can also witness from the visitors' gallery. The tour goes on to the ripening cellar, where the delicacies are stored and mature.
The here manufactured cheese of course can be tasted and is on sale in the shop. The tour is barrier-free and the interesting guided tours are offered in German, Italian and English language.
