Olperl's Nature Park, a park for all the senses located at more than 2,000 m a.s.l., enchants kids and adults alike. The theme trail starts near the Monte Elmo mountain station. This mountain, a 2,434 m high peak in the Carnic Main Crest, is accessible by cable car from the villages of Sesto or Versciaco.
The 1.5 km long circular trail is suitable for prams and overcomes an altitude difference of only 80 metres. In a one-hour walk, the path takes you into the reign of Olperl. According to legend, it is a mysterious half-human and half-animal creature, which has been living since ancient times in the mountains of the Alta Val Pusteria valley. It scares the humans with its whistles, but is a great friend of the local wildlife.
Olperl's Nature Park starts at the Children's Hut, a wooden hut with goats, sheep, rabbits and hens. 10 stations, dedicated to local fauna species, are following. Also the highest located barefoot trail of the Dolomites at 2,150 m a.s.l. can be found here, as well as several panoramic viewpoints where you can enjoy an impressive view on the nearby Sesto Dolomites. At the end of Olperl's Nature Park you can decide if you want to take a rest at the Monte Elmo Restaurant or continue the walk for another half-hour to the Gallo Cedrone Mountain Hut (also suitable for prams).
