Passionated mountainbikers know perfectly that their favourite sport can also be an uphill battle. Athletes who decide to face the Stoneman Trail are going to live an extraordinary adventure in the Dolomites. This itinerary was realised by Roland Stauder, a professional mountainbiker, and makes the heart of every passionate mountainbiker race. It can be completed within one, two or three days, depending on your personal fitness level. We divided the tour into three daily stages (Marchkinkele, La Muta (Demut) and Roda di Vaèl (Rotwand)) which allows you to enjoy the landscape as much as possible. During this tour you are going to explore different Italian and Austrian places, such as the Monti del Villgraten (Villgrater Berge) between South Tyrol and East Tyrol, the Catena Carnica Principale (Karnischer Kamm), located between the Veneto region and East Tyrol and finally the Dolomiti di Sesto in South Tyrol.
The Stoneman Dolomiti described in this article, has been the first one of this type: nowadays, there exist many of them, for example in the Erzgebirge (Germany), at the Breithorn (Switzerland), in the Pongau (Austria) and in the Ardennes (Belgium). Mountainbikers are not the only sportspeople to cover them, as also road cyclists and thru-hikers take up the challenge. Athletes who succeed in completing the Stoneman within one, two or three days and endorse a booklet in all the checkpoints will be added to the finisher's list in one of the three available categories: gold, silver and bronze (for further information on the booklet please contact or visit the tourist offices along the track). Every stage is a fascinating experience, regardless of fame.
