Lago Maler lake is a spectacular mountain lake at 2,530 m. From Riva di Tures we walk uphill to the uncontaminated nature below Monte Nevoso, past the Rifugio Roma mountain hut

Our starting point is the car park at the cross-country slopes of Riva di Tures. Above the bridge which crosses the Reinbach stream, the path n.1 runs along a slope above the Bachertal valley. Then it leads across a wood and past malga Terner. Shortly after it, we arrive at a marvelous waterfall and some small alpine meadows at 2,000 m a.s.l. After having crossed the Tristenbach stream, a short but steep slope to the Rifugio Roma (or Kasseler Hütte) mountain hut at 2.275 m awaits us. Now there is only a small uphill section left. The mountain hut, which's previous name was Hochgall-Hütte, is the only refreshment area along the path to Lago Maler.
From there, the path n. 1A proceeds towards north to the Lago Maler. The landscape above the forest limit is characterised by the immense force of uncontaminated nature: in fact, here you can admire moorlands, piles of debris and rocks. Shortly before reaching our final destination, we walk slightly downhill, then we cross a rock ridge and we arrive at a plain below Monte Nevoso. Now we have finally reached the final destination of our hike. In front of us, we can now admire a high moorland and lago Maler (2,500 m), a stunning mountain lake. Both of them are fed by the melting water of the glaciers. The lake with its crystal clear water has a length of 170 m and a width of 75 m and is surrounded by numerous mountains above 3,000 m that are part of the Gruppo Alti Tauri, Vedrette di Ries and of the Gruppo della Cima Dura. We return to the valley by using the same path.
