Not only in summer but also in winter the Prato Piazza alpine pasture in the Braies valley is a place of particular beauty

Here amidst the Dolomites winter shows all its splendour: starting point of our hike is Carbonin at 1,460 m a.s.l. in the Val di Landro (accessible by public bus from Dobbiaco). About 200 metres up the valley the path n° 37 branches off on the right and winds up the hill. The view on the Monte Cristallo and Mt Croda Rossa is gorgeous.
After about 40 minutes the path becomes flatter and the forest thins more and more. The Vallandro mountain hut at 2,030 m a.s.l. is visible, just right to break off for lunch. Looking out on the beautiful cross country ski track we proceed further towards north to the Prato Piazza tavern, there the descent to Braies starts.
Down in the valley at the Brückele tavern (parking space) the bus stop is located, where we take the bus back to Dobbiaco. The very special charm of the snow-white meadows and the mighty Dolomites makes this winter hike a particular adventure.
