Dolomiti Balloon Festival, Lake Dobbiaco or adventure park, there is something for every taste

Already the famous composer Gustav Mahler appreciated the advantages of the area in which he spent his summer months between 1908 to 1910, that is to say Dobbiaco. Here he even owned a composer's cottage, in which he composed the Nineth Symphony and The Song of the Earth. Still today you can visit the composer's cottage near the wild park of Dobbiaco.
Dobbiaco comprises Dobbiaco Nuova and Vecchia and is the chief village of the municipality. It is also site of the Cultural Centre Grand Hotel, where several events take place. In winter, cross-country skiers can exercise for the Val Pusteria ski marathon in the modern Nordic Arena. Along the ex-railway line of the Valle di Landro or along the Pusterbike cycle track you can by the way enjoy cycling tours, event to East Tyrol.
If that might not be enough challenge for your, just register at the hardest mtb competition of the Dolomites, Dolomiti Superbike. Climbing in winter can be experienced in the state-of-the-art climbing gym in Dobbiaco, while outdoor climbing is possible in the outdoor climbing crag close to the Lago di Landro, or among the treetops in the adventure park Dobbiaco. Highly recommendable is a tour on the Bonner high path and to the Corno di Fana di Dobbiaco. Those, however, who prefer easy walks, can make a tour round the emerald-green Lago di Dobbiaco.
Our tip: hoovering in the air above Dobbiaco, retracing the adventure of the Mongolfier brothers. This is what you can do in the frame of the Dolomiti Balloon Festival, taking place in January.
