The municipality of Sesto stretches from the entrance of the valley at San Candido up to the Passo Croce. Sesto harkens back on an animated past and is today one of the most famous holiday destinations of the province of Bolzano. Beside the main village of Sesto/San Vito, it comprises the localities of San Giuseppe, Außerberg, Quiniga, Monte di Mezzo, Moso and Ferrara and a territory between 1,244 m to the 3,152 m high Cima Tre Scarperi. Undoubtedly the most striking rock formation are the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, to which Sesto owes its world-wide fame. It is not only the major attraction of the municipality, but also the symbol of the Alta Pusteria.
Surrounded by the Carnic Alps and the Sesto Dolomites, Sesto is located in the Sesto Dolomites and comprises also the Sundial of Sesto, a group of mountains in a special alignment. Skiing on the Croda Rossa in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites skiing region, cross-country skiing in the romantic Val Fiscalina, tobogganing on the Prati di Croda Rossa and winter hiking to the Rif. Fondo Valle, these are our winter tips of a stay in Sesto. Especially popular in summer is the Giro delle Tre Cime di Lavaredo, that is to say the tour round the famous Dolomite pinnacles, as well as the Monte Paterno fixed rope route. For family holidays, we recommend a visit to the Croda Rossa, where reindeer live.
The flagship for mountain bikers in Sesto is the challenging stage of the Dolomiti Superbike and the Stoneman Trail, brought into being by Roland Stauder, a local mountain bike professional. Not a competition, just a challenge.
