Maranza is surrounded by meadows and fields and is located high above Rio di Pusteria at 1,414 m a.s.l. It can either be reached via a panoramic road, or via funicular with lower terminus in Rio di Pusteria.
The well-shaped local mountain of Maranza is the so-called Gitschberg, also simply called "Gitsch“. In summer, this mountain (2,500 m) stands for a fabulous hiking area, from the panoramic platform on its summit you can enjoy a breathtaking mountain view: not only the Dolomites, but also the Oetztal and Zillertal Alps can be admired.
However, in winter this mountain transforms into a skiing area, able to satisfy anyone's needs. In the village, there is also a slope for the little ones, making their first passes on snow, while more experienced skiers can head for the blue, red and black slopes on the mountain. A particular challenge is the Nesselwiese slope. Jumps and rails, however, are available for those who prefer snowboarding.
After snow adventures, we recommend you a drink in one of the Après ski bars of the village. Moreover there are evening events in the tennis hall.
Our suggestions: an afternoon on the miniature golf course and a relaxing evening in the AlpinPool, the indoor pool of Maranza. As far as hiking in summer is concerned, we recommend you the Valle d'Altafossa, with stop in one of the mountain huts, of course.
