The municipality of Rodengo is located at the entrance of the Val Pusteria valley, surrounded by meadows and woods east of the Rienza Gorge, in the Rio Pusteria – Gitschberg Jochtal holiday area
Rodengo Castle – visible from afar – is enthroned above the gorge of the Rienza River and is the landmark of Rodengo. Not far the village of Villa, the main village of the municipality, is located as well as the villages of Nauders, Chivo and San Paolo at an altitude between 800 and 1,000 m a.s.l. The castle dates back to the 12th century, it was seat of the court for a long time and can be visited within guided tours today.
The mountain hamlets of Spissa, Frella and Montano – located at the slope which rises to the Rodengo Alpine Pasture – are also part of Rodengo. This extensive high alpine pasture which is among the most beautiful ones in the whole Alpine region, offers wide herb and flower meadows, a gorgeous view on the Dolomites and the main chain of the Alps and a wide rang of mountain huts with traditional delicacies. Here both summer and winter can be enjoyed to the fullest.
The long and turbulent history of Rodengo Castle and a fabulous landscape of alpine pastures make Rodengo an ideal destination for relaxing vacation days.
