The municipality of Leisach in the Lienz Dolomites comprises the localities of Burgfrieden, Gries and Leisach-Dorf as well as Mount Spitzkofel (2,717 m). Culture and tradition are very important to the citizens of Leisach: very old customs like chiming the bells if there is a thunderstorm or the carol singers dressed like the Three Wise Men are still lived today.
The holiday village of Leisach attaches great importance to family-friendliness. Especially the swimming pool located in the forest is popular with kids, offering a huge lawn with trees as well as a children’s playground and a children’s pool. Also the cycling trail along the Drau river is ideal for family day trips. In winter you can chose between the natural toboggan run, the ice skating rink and the ski region “Lienzer Bergbahnen”.
A very recommendable destination for a family trip is the Galitzenklamm gorge, not far from the village of Leisach. Walking on stairs and ladders you can admire this natural jewel, its thunderous waterfalls and views of the impressive Lienz Dolomites.
By the way: the locality of Gries is the starting point of the Val Pusteria high road ("Pustertaler Höhenstrasse”), which offers great views of the Lienz Dolomites and finally leads you until Abfaltersbach. Of course, this road is also a true paradise for motor cyclists.
