Schlaiten (876 m a.s.l.) is one of the smaller municipalities of East Tyrol and can hardly be seen from the valley since it lies above it. However, Schlaiten and its villages of Plone, Gonzach, Mesnerdorf, Bacherdorf, Gantschach and Göriach are really worth to be visited.
The mountain farmers village and holiday destination Schlaiten offers plenty of different leisure activities in a wonderful landscape and nature, like the Hohe Tauern National Park. Its municipal territory reaches until the peaks of the Defregger mountains. Particularly recommendable is a hiking tour to the Hochschober mountain hut, the starting point of a beautiful tour leading from mountain hut to mountain hut in the Schober mountain range, or a hiking tour to the solitary Alkuser Lake. Moreover, in and around Schlaiten you can do exciting mountain bike tours, kayaking, rafting and tennis.
In winter you can easily reach the ski regions of Lienz, like the Zettersfeld/Hochstein ski region, or enjoy yourself on the cross country ski runs in the valley … no matter what you prefer: you will certainly have a lot of fun!
