Sillian

A true paradise for both active tourists and tourists interested in culture and history

Altitude: 1,103 metres a.s.l.

The municipality of Sillian in the Hochpustertal (the easternmost part of the Val Pusteria) at the foot of Mount Thurntaler, is divided into the villages of Arnbach, Sillian and Sillianberg. With more than 2,000 residents it is one of the biggest municipalities in the Alta Val Pusteria. Sillian was home to many famous Tyroleans, like the first Tyrolean Governor Josef Schraffl, the author Adam Purwalder and the knight Blasius Hölzl.

Sillian is the perfect destination for active tourists: hiking passionates can enjoy the famous Carnic high alpine trail („Karnischer Höhenweg“) and bikers can cycle on the 200 km long bicycle trail along the Drau river leading to Maribor in Slovenia. In winter, the ski region of Sillian offers great skiing possibilities both for beginners and experts on more than 45 km of perfectly groomed ski slopes. Your children will have a lot of fun in the kids club “Bobo” and the ski school. Sillian offers sun, snow and slopes.

For those of you who are interested in culture and history, you can visit the "Prangersäule“, the only preserved middle age column in Tyrol and the Baroque church of Sillian built in the year 1431. Moreover, a lot of religious festivals are celebrated in Sillian, like for example the festival in honour of Jesus (Herz-Jesu-Fest) in June, when huge fires are made all along the mountain ranges.

If you are looking for a souvenir of Sillian, just visit the Hochpustertal farmers' shop („Hochpustertaler Bauernladen“)!
