S. Giorgio is connected to the Valle di Tures cycling trail and faces the Plan de Corones
S. Giorgio is located along the Aurina and is undoubtedly one of the oldest settlements of the entire valley. On the two hills above the village, you can retrace prehistoric hill-forts, testifying former settlements. Once San Giorgio used to be an independent municipality, in 1928 it joined the municipality of Brunico. Today the village has got some 2,000 inhabitants.
The city of Brunico is about 1 km away and can easily be reached by bike. Lovely cafés and numerous possibilities for a stop as well as a charming village centre make San Giorgio at the entrance of the Valle di Tures worth a visit. Ideal is it also for a walk, as it is surrounded by the meadows of the Aurina river.
If you prefer Nordic Walking, you have also chosen the right place, as San Giorgio is the seat of a Nordic Walking school belonging to the Nature Fitness Park Plan de Corones Dolomiti, which is the largest park of Europe, offering routes in all levels of difficulty.
In winter there is a shuttle service taking you to the lower terminus of the Plan de Corones skiing area, only a stone’s throw away.
