Stegona can be considered a suburb of Brunico and borders on the west of Brunico. It is a settlement with Roman origins that was first mentioned in the year 1000 in a donation to the bishop Albuin.
One of the benefits of Stegona is also its vicinity close to Brunico, which can be reached on foot. If you would like to make a walk, you can take the trail to Grimaldo at the lower mountain range, or walk along the Rienza river. Moreover you can cycle along the Valle di Tures cycling trail or reach the Val Pusteria cycling path. Worth a visit is also the beautiful S. Nicolò church, constructed in Gothic style.
However, particularly popular is Stegona for the famous Stegona Market, the largest market of Tyrol, taking place every year in October. Not only the inhabitants of the valley gather on this occasion, many visitors also come from all over for bargain hunting. A visit is absolutely worth it, also for mingling with the crowd only.
