Casteldarne is located at 805 m a.s.l. and has got some 960 inhabitants. Characteristic for the village is its mighty castle, former ancestral seat of the Counts of Künigl, dating back to the 17th and 18th century. It is made up of a more ancient part in the south, which has been unmodified, and the eastern part in Baroque style. On the castle hill, there is also the parish church of Casteldarne, which is above all known due to the miraculous image of the Corn Mother. It was reconstructed in the 14th century and converted to the Baroque style.
A Romanesque milestone attracts the attention in the village. In 1928 this milestone has been discovered in the west of the village, bricked in a wall. A walk to the milestone of the Roman emperors Septimus, Severus, Caracalla and Geta is worthwhile. Roemerweg trail or farm trail, Kienberg trail or a walk to Montal, there are plenty of possibilities for walks.
