San Sigismondo is not a typical touristic destination. It is located at 786 m in the west of Chienes. San Sigismondo is located in the valley basin of the Val Pusteria. To reach the centre, branch off at the historic tavern “Zum Treyen”. Proceeding you reach the parish church, which is decorated with a winged altar of the Donauschule around 1440. The Master of San Sigismondo, a late Gothic painter, made significant contributions to the church decoration, as he painted four scenes of the life of Mary on the altar.
In San Sigismondo, there is by the way also a camping, occupying the green between the main road and the Rienza river. For the little ones, there is a children’s playground with bouncy castle. Farm trail, village trail, butterfly trail, there are by the way also many possibilities regarding walks in and round the village. Also recommendable is a trip to Brunico with the modern Val Pusteria train.
