Acereto belongs to the municipality of Campo Tures and is located at 1,400 m a.s.l., about 13 km from Brunico, stretching on the northern slopes of the valley. Idyllic, this is how the village could best be described. With fair weather, you can admire the view of the mountains of the valley, up to the Plan de Corones and the Dolomites.
The most famous citizen of Acereto is undoubtedly the extreme mountain climber Hans Kammerlander, who was born here as the sixth child of a farmer's family and who is still living in this village. Kammerlander owes his fame i.a. to its ascent of 13 mountains of eight thousand metres in the Himalaya and Karakorum, seven of which with Reinhold Messner. Kammerlander was also the first to succeed in the descent which skis from the summit of the Nanga Parbat. By the way, as an eigth-year old boy, Kammerlander scaled his local mountain, the Picco Palu (3,059 m).
Free as a bird, this is what you feel in Acereto above the valley basin of the Valle Aurina. Take advantage of this feeling and the good wind conditions and try hang-gliding, which is really popular in this area, as there is a flying area on the way to the Picco Palu (3,059 m).
