Villa Ottone has got some 840 inhabitants and is located on the very same altitude, only a few km from Gais, further down in the valley. Mentioned for the first time in 970, it was named a hundred years later by aristocrats who had a castle built in this village in the 11th century. This is by the way where the border between Tures (Tyrol) and Villa Ottone-Neuhaus (Gorizia) passed.
As majestic as the castle is the parish church of Villa Ottone, dedicated to S. Margareta. It was constructed on the place where a lightning strike destroyed an ancient church.
Varied are also the possibilities for your spare time: trekking, rafting and hiking for your summer holidays, tobogganing and skiing in winter. The skiing area Plan de Corones and Speikboden are within easy reach, moreover there are several winter hiking trails available.
High above Villa Ottone, there is the homestead group Anewandt, stretching up to a plain mead at 1,500 m a.s.l. An attraction of the special kind.
