Lutago is one of the first localities of Aurina when you drive into the valley, and is surrounded by the picturesque scenery of the Zillertal Alps: a total of 14 mountains of three thousand metres, among others the Cima di Campo and the Sasso Nero, are located within short reach. The latter is the local mountain of Lutago and is a very popular hiking destination for experienced mountaineers. There is much to do in this area, from the various possibilities to stop at to the nice shops. A further highlight in Lutago is horse riding and horse trekking, which is offered the whole year round by a local horse riding stable.
In winter you will be spoiled for choice, the Klausberg and Speikboden skiing areas are relatively small and ideal for kids and families. Those who seek the thrill of adrenaline can try rafting in the Aurino, while those who prefer more comfortable activities can visit the crib museum Maranatha in the centre of Lutago. This is where you can retrace the arts of wood carving in the Valle Aurina and admire varied hand-made pieces of arts.
What you also do not have to miss is the parish church towering on a hill. Via a long stairway you reach the top, from where you can admire the surroundings from a different perspective. A personality that is worth mentioning is Vinzenz Oberhollenzer, who created a series of documents regarding the valley and the village.
