The location of the locality of S. Giacomo can be described as lofty. Located at 1,192 m a.s.l., the Gothic church rises on a hill, is dedicated to S. Giacomo and has been created in 1500.
On the church hill, only a stone's throw from the church, in 2003 Jakob Oberhollenzer created a new village fountain. The impressive statue is directed towards Santiago de Compostela and reminds on the path that led from north to south across this valley. Also does the village offer a sculpture garden created by the artist Oberhollenzer. Integrated into this exhibition area is the Leonardi path, which is a short walk that makes promenaders familiar with rural life in the village.
In fact, handicrafts and especially wood carving is of utmost importance in the village, not for nothing S. Giacomo is famous far beyond the valley for its mask carvers and sculptures.
S. Giacomo is an ideal place for extended walks, surrounded by a great mountain scenery. And of course also those who love mountaineering feel at ease, as the valley has got more than 80 mountains of three thousand metres to offer. Cycling, Nordic Walking, there is something for every taste.
Likewise impressive is S. Giacomo in winter season. Located only a stone's throw from the Klausberg skiing area, it is a good choice if you would like to spend skiing holidays in the valley. To make the offer complete, there are winter hiking trails and a snow-covered scenery that can be described as incomparable.
Our tip: a walk on the Leonardi path, which is not only relaxing, but also instructive.
